LAWMAKERS TAKE AIM AT ISSUE ADS
Monday, January 18th, 2010 -- 12:09 PM
Everyone has seen those pesky 'issue ads' that run during hot-button campaigns. The ads are usually paid for by mysterious groups. The Wisconsin Senate will consider a bill Tuesday that would force those groups to reveal their donors.
If approved, groups that air ads within 60 days of an election would have to abide by the same disclosure requirements as candidates.
Some groups don't like the proposal, claiming it's unconstitutional.
The Government Accountability Board is also considering administrative rules to regulate the ads.
