Wednesday, January 6th, 2010 -- 2:15 PM
Legislators says they want hunters' voices herd as the DNR sets deer herd strategies. Many claim the DNR's herd reduction strategies have devastated the deer population. The gun-deer harvest was down almost 29% in 2009.
The DNR has already proposed rules that would govern the deer population for at least the next three years. The agency wants to raise the goal in 13 zones.
On Tuesday, the Assembly Fish and Wildlife Committee sent the proposal back to the agency.
The committee wants DNR officials to address what lawmakers see as a flawed deer counting system.
