DNR MULLS LONGER SEASON
Monday, November 16th, 2009 -- 12:14 PM
So far, it seems obvious hunters aren't in favor of starting the gun-deer season earlier. The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources is still sorting through some 6,000 letters, e-mails and online comments on the possible 16-day hunt.
Those comments are on top of those made by the 1,600 people that attended public hearings on the topic.
Hunters generally do not like the idea, but there's more support if the extra week is tacked on to the end of the traditional 9-day season, which begins the Saturday before Thanksgiving.
Warnke says recommendations will be presented at the board's December meeting in Madison.
