MEDICARE PART 'D' INFO FLOODS MAILBOXES
Friday, November 6th, 2009 -- 12:19 PM
These are confusing times for seniors, especially those enrolled in Medicare Part D.Bonnie Langreck, a benefits specialist with the Clark County Department of Aging, says seniors are getting swamped with mailings about Medicare?s prescription drug benefit. Some of them are ?junk? mail, but many are important.
"I advise them to keep whatever they get from Social Security and CMS, and their own insurance, and put them in one envelope," Langreck says,"and all the other stuff, put in another envelope."
Then contact the Aging Office, and they can help you sort through the clutter.
The up-tick in mail coincides with the annual enrollment period.
"This information is coming out prior to what we call the annual enrollment period, which is November 15th to December 31st, which will allow the people to make the changes," Langreck explains.
Medicare Part D is obviously a government program, but the coverages are provided by private insurers.
Wisconsin seniors are lucky to have a state option called SeniorCare. For many people, the state option is the best bet, but lower income individuals may do better on the Medicare program. For more information, call the Aging Office at 743-5144.
