CLARK CO. HCE CELEBRATES 70 YEARS
Monday, November 2nd, 2009 -- 10:38 AM
A local group is still going strong after 70 years. The Clark County HCE is celebrating their 70th anniversary this coming week. Joan Knack of Loyal is the President of the group.
"The HCE is Home and Community Education," Knack explains. "We have different projects each month, so we go to them and bring them back to our individual clubs."
Knack says they?re very active here in Clark County. They have 16 clubs in rural and urban areas, and they?re open to both men and women.
And, even though their numbers are down a bit, due to lifestyle changes, they had a very busy 2009. One of the main highlights was the construction of a new foodstand at the Fairgrounds, which they share with the 4-H. They also sponsor several scholarships every year, candidate forums and trips.
Knack is hoping more young people join HCE.
"It's a sign of the times, but it's a shame. We have a lot of good programs and we give scholarships to our members to go to (events)," she says.
