BRF FIRE DEPARTMENT BUSY
Monday, October 26th, 2009 -- 11:36 AM
It was a busy Monday morning for the Black River Falls Fire Department as they responded to two fires. The first call came in at around 2:22 a.m. It was a mattress fire at 115 Oak Street in the City of Black River Falls. By the time the crew arrived, the fire had vented out the window and it was a "room & contents" fire.
The fire was knocked down and extinguished quickly by the Department with just 308 gallons of water. The fire was held to a bedroom but the rest of the home has heavy heat and smoke damage.
While the occupants escaped, a family dog did perish in the fire.
Shortly after returning to the Fire Station, the Department was paged again at 3:54 a.m. for a camper fire at Castle Mound State Park Camp Ground in the Township of Brockway.
Upon arrival the Department found a 36' foot motor home fully involved with flames 20' high. Both occupants and a dog had escaped without injury.
The 1996 motor home is a total loss. The loss is estimated to be between 20 to 30 thousand dollars.
Fire officials say the five people affected by these two fires are lucky to be alive because they didn?t have working alarms.
