STATE MAY CONSIDER DENTAL SCHOOL IN MARSHFIELD

A new dental school could be coming to Marshfield. On Wednesday, a state commission authorized a $200,000 study to find a solution to the shortage of dentists in northern Wisconsin.
The study will look into the benefits of constructing a dental school in Marshfield.
One of the studies authors says the best way to alleviate the problem is to train more dentists. Marquette University in Milwaukee has the state's only dental school. It graduates 80 students per year.
Not only is the unmet demand for dentists higher in rural areas, so is the need. A 2008 study found that 43 percent of adults living in the northern region of the state had lost permanent teeth compared with the state average of 38 percent.
