NEW PAGE TO SHUT DOWN MACHINE

The Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development says NewPage Corp. plans to idle one of two machines at their Whiting plant this December, laying off 75 to 100 employees.The Whiting mill employs about 340 workers. The company says the length of the layoff will be based on the economy and customer orders.
It's part of the company's plan to cut paper production by 160,000 tons in the fourth quarter.
