BIKE RIDE FOR CANCER RESEARCH

Wednesday, October 7th, 2009 -- 11:22 AM

Dozens of bicyclists will be on the roads around Marshfield raising money and awareness for breast cancer research.

The Sports Den in Marshfield will host its third annual Breast Cancer Awareness Ride this Saturday at 10 a.m.

The Marshfield ride is part of a nationwide event sponsored by Trek Bicycle Company. It will feature casual 10 or 25 mile rides, says Denny Riedel of the Sports Den.

"We've had people come as an organized team. They've had t-shirts dedicated to a cancer survivor, or in memory (of someone)," Riedel recalls. "It is a fun and relaxing type of a ride."

Participants pay $25 to register. That money is used to fund cancer research.

Plus, the Sports Den has organized a local raffle that will benefit the Marshfield Clinic WINGS Program, which helps cancer survivors.

"We purchased a Trek 722 Hybrid bicycle. Trek threw in a fancy paint job. We have Wisconsin Dells packages, a recliner from Slumberland, a quilt, and just many, many other prizes," Riedel says.
