WATER USAGE DOWN IN WISCONSIN

Monday, October 5th, 2009 -- 8:15 AM

Central Wisconsinites are using less water these days.

The Public Service Commission looked at data from 584 public water utilities around the state and found usage had dropped nearly 7% between 2004 and 2008.

The typical customer used 56,000 gallons of water in 2008, compared with 60,000 in 2004.

Water conservation and efficiency continue to gain momentum in the state, says PSC Chairman Eric Callisto.

In central Wisconsin, Stevens Point, Marshfield, Plover, Wausau and Wisconsin Rapids used less water in 2008 than they did the year before.
