2020 A Year of Challenges for Those in the Medical Field
Saturday, January 2nd, 2021 -- 9:01 AM
(WMTV) 2020 has been a year full of challenges for many, but especially those in the medical field.
UW Health Chief Quality Officer Dr. Jeff Pothof reflected on how health care workers overcame their obstacles on Thursday. Pothof said the pandemic has improved the quality and speed that medical teams put a plan together, citing accomplishments like COVID-19 testing and vaccine development.
“This idea that perfect can be the enemy of good and often times we work with frontline people knowing there won’t be big problems but that there will be bumps in the road and then figure those bumps out along the way,” said Pothof.
“That’s just a much faster way and better to do things differently.” In a news release, Pothof said UW Health was grateful for the work of providers and staff for taking care of their patients.
He also thanked the community for doing all that they can to stop the spread of COVID-19. Pothof credits the pandemic for the improvement in telehealth, as well. He expects advancements in virtual health to continue into 2021.
He also noted that widespread distribution of the COVID-19 vaccine is still months away, meaning people must keep socially distancing, wearing a mask and washing their hands.
