WOOD CO. FACES IRS FINE

A local county is in hot water with the IRS.Wood County officials were meeting this morning to discuss a potential $50,000 penalty from the Internal Revenue Service for submitting late 2007 payroll forms.
According to the Marshfield NewsHerald?s website, the county received notice last week explaining they have 45 days to either send a check for the proposed amount or appeal.
County officials say they?ll likely appeal because the mistake was a simple oversight caused by the unexpected resignation of the payroll and benefits coordinator.
