PRELIM DELAYED IN WITKUS CASE
Thursday, August 20th, 2009 -- 11:26 AM
A preliminary hearing scheduled for Wednesday for a man accused in a fatal buggy accident was delayed.49-year-old Brian Witkus of Marshfield was found indigent Tuesday by a Marathon County judge who appointed defense attorney Richard Lawson to represent him at county-expense.
Lawson then waived the time limits for holding the preliminary hearing, which is typically held shortly after a person is charged with a felony offense.
Witkus is charged with homicide by negligent operation of a vehicle.
Six-week-old Ada Miller of Chili was killed in the collision. Her 33-year-old mother, Elizabeth Miller, was injured.
