NEW CENSUS BUREAU DATA

Wednesday, July 22nd, 2009 -- 10:13 AM

New data from the U.S. Census Bureau shows Clark County?s overall population isn?t changing much, but there are some big shifts in individual municipalities.

Clark County?s population in 2008 was estimated to be around 33,553, four less than in 2000.

It appears more people are moving out of cities and villages and into the country.

The Town of Hoard, near Owen, experienced the biggest population increase of any local municipality over the past eight years. Their population jumped 41% from 594 in 2000, to 840 in 2008.

The Town of Pine Valley, which surrounds Neillsville, saw their population increase 13%, to 1,268. The towns of Weston and Longwood saw their populations increase just under 10%.

Meanwhile, the Town of Green Grove, just south of Owen, saw their population dip 25% over the same period.

For the most part, cities and villages lost residents.

Neillsville?s population sank 5% to 2,591 residents. The Village of Granton lost 4% of their population, falling from 406 residents, to just 390. Loyal and Greenwood also lost residents over the period.
