PINE VALLEY LOOKS AT COMP. PLAN

Tuesday, July 7th, 2009 -- 9:46 AM

A local town is exploring comprehensive planning.

This doesn?t need to be a controversial issue, says Wendell Kuhn of the Pine Valley Plan Commission.

Faced with an influx of sub-divisions, the town, which surrounds Neillsville, enacted regulations for such developments. The regulations seemed to be widely accepted by the public, he notes.

But, under state statute, they won?t be enforceable after January 1st of next year, unless the Town has a comprehensive plan.

"If a township, county, municipality does not have a comprehensive plan in place, they cannot enforce or control any land use ordinances they may have had prior to January 1, 2010." He says.

Kuhn says they want ?as basic a plan? as they can develop.

"The comprehensive plan itself is basically a mission statement," he explains. "It doesn't set zoning, it does not set what subdivisions have to be. It is an overall view of what you see for your township, where the growth is."

Kuhn says the Town wants input from their taxpayers. They've scheduled an open house and meeting at the Pine Valley Town Hall for 7 p.m. on Tuesday, July 14th.
