SHARED REVENUE CUTS HAVE IMPACT
Thursday, July 2nd, 2009 -- 1:56 PM
Area municipalities will have to deal with differing amounts of state aid cuts under the newly approved budget. The new fiscal year officially began Wednesday in Wisconsin.
The state budget makes nearly across the board cuts, including to shared revenue.
According to information obtained by Clark County?s Department of Finance, the county will lose $30,000 in state aid this year; a drop of 1.4%.
Cities and villages lose similar percentages.
But, there?s a wide disparity in aid loss for towns.
The Towns of Dewhurst, Hewett and Mead will lose 15% of their state aid payments. Other towns fair better. The Town of Butler will only lose 3.2% of its payment. The disparity is due to the equalized values of the towns.
It should be noted shared revenues are only a portion of the state aid municipalities receive; there will be cuts elsewhere, as well.
