GOOD TURNOUT AT HUMANE SOCIETY

The ribbon was cut Saturday on a huge expansion at the Clark County Humane Society."The cars are just lining the road. This is what we want to see," said CCHS director Chuck Wegner as he surveyed the good turnout.
"We just love it when supporters, members, curiosity-seekers just come to see what's going on and share in the festivities," he added.
After 21 years in the same cramped quarters, the 6,000-square foot addition doubles the size of the original facility and adds new amenities to help them care for pets.
Dozen of visitors took walk-through tours of the new surgery room, lab/exam room, recovery rooms, laundry, cleaning room, education room, training room, rescue room, puppy room, and the new main kennel room.
While not entirely complete, Wegner says the addition is already helping them care for animals.
"You probably heard the news of the 315 dogs that had to be rescued in Richland County," Wegner says, "We certainly received a portion of those dogs here. They immediately went into the rescue room."
The bad economy has forced many families to move and give up their pets.
"It's up and running full blast."
The CCHS has a maximum capacity of around 100 dogs.
The Humane Society has around 42 volunteers, but are always looking for more.
