200 HOLES IN ONE DAY!

Wednesday, June 24th, 2009 -- 12:51 PM

A Marshfield man played more golf in one day than some play in a whole year; and it was all for a good cause.

Neil Riedel got to Riveredge Country Club at 4 a.m. Tuesday morning. He teed off at around 5 a.m. By noon, he?d already played over 100 holes.

"We played the first six or seven holes in fog, we just had to follow the ball the best we could," Riedel told us on the course Tuesday.

He wound up playing 200 holes, and was exhausted when he finally hung up the clubs. He says he drank 36 bottles of water and Powerade.

Riedel, a cancer survivor, golfed from sun-up to sundown to raise money for cancer research.

"I had cancer, my mother had cancer, my mother-in-law died from cancer; it's kind of a special project for me," he said.

As of Wednesday morning, $3,000 in pledges were raised. He?s still hoping some people will donate by calling V & H Heavy Truck at 486-8800.

In case you?re wondering, the World Record for number of holes in one day is 600. Riedel says he actually called the Indiana man. He used a speed cart and had spotters on the course.
