BLOOD SHORTAGE
Thursday, June 18th, 2009 -- 12:21 PM
The Blood Center is critically low on Type-O Negative blood."We are down to less than a half-day's supply on Type O Negative," explains Vicki Bohman of the Blood Center.
Type-O Negative is the ?universal? blood type.
It?s always more difficult to find donors during the summer months.
"The majority of our blood supply actually comes from high schools and universities, so when they're not in session, that does impact our blood supply," Bohman says, "that's why summers are the most difficult time to meet the blood supply for a local area."
It takes about one hour to donate a pint of blood. That donation can save up to three lives, Bohman says.
[b]You can donate blood in Loyal Friday from 12:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. at the Loyal City Hall[b].
