MURDERS ON THE DECLINE

Wisconsin officials report a 20% drop in the number of homicides in the state; the 2nd biggest decline reported.New data from the state Office of Justice Assistance showed 146 homicides in the state in 2008, down from 184 the year before.
Violent crime fell nearly 5%. Property crimes were down 2.1%.
However, it wasn't any safer to be an officer. 1,130 police officers were assaulted in 2008, the most in any of the last 10 years.
