TRUCKERS RALLY FOR GOOD CAUSE

Monday, June 15th, 2009 -- 2:01 PM

Truckers got together in Neillsville Saturday to raise money for a good cause.

This was the 12th Make-a-Wish truck convoy organized by the Montgomery family of Granton.

Around 40 big rigs lined the infield of the Clark County Fairgrounds.

Punk Montgomery says they've raised thousands of dollars for the Make-a-Wish Foundation, which grants wishes for terminally ill kids.

"Over the years, everyone asks me (how much we've raised), I never remember to add it up," says Montgomery.

$1,250 was raised the first year, but the event has grown by leaps and bounds. "Oh yes, the first year, we started with five trucks," she says.

There were at least 40 vehicles this year.

Montgomery says her husband, William, attended in a similar convoy in Pennsylvania. "He came home and thought it would be a good idea for us to do it. We love helping kids and it's a good organization: not a lot of money is spent on anything but the wishes," she notes.

The drivers come from as far away as Canada.

"Everybody has a great time. They want to come back year after year if they can make it."
