BOYD MAN KILLED IN ULTRALIGHT CRASH
Thursday, June 4th, 2009 -- 11:03 AM
Authorities say the man killed when his homemade ultralight aircraft crashed last night was no stranger to the skies near Stanley.45-year-old John Junker of rural Boyd died in the crash just after 8:20 p.m. It happened just west of the Ace Ethanol plant, just across the Clark-Chippewa County line.
Junker had flown the planes for years. He was well-known and people on the ground frequently waved to him. Yesterday?s fateful crash was no different. Investigators waved at some people on the ground as he flew over the treetops.
Witnesses report Junker?s demeanor turned serious just before the plane just nose-dived to the ground.
Investigators are still looking into the cause, but believe a mechanical failure is to blame for the accident.
