BIG FOOD DRIVE SATURDAY
Friday, May 8th, 2009 -- 12:48 PM
Letter carriers around the country are getting ready for Saturday?s big food drive. The public can help in a number of ways.
"You could come down and volunteer. We're always looking for people," explains Neillsville Postmaster Lisa Schilling.
Donations can be left in the Post Office Lobby, or right at your mailbox.
The Neillsville Post Office has always done a tremendous job with the food drive.
"Last year, we received 5,344 pounds, which is unbelievable," Schilling says. "We always go against the Marshfield Post Office. For the past five years, Neillsville has always beaten Marshfield."
The food is distributed to local food pantries. With the economy the way it is, each donation is even more important.
"They are really, really hurting for food. We appreciate any donation you can give. It's unbelievable to come down and see 5,000 pounds of food at your local food," she says.
Schilling says the event is a bit of a labor of love for the postmen and women. It is a lot of extra work, but very fulfilling work. If you have any questions, contact your local post office, or visit www.nalc.org.
