The Highground hosted a meaningful day of community service and seasonal celebration on Wednesday, October 28, 2026, combining a vital Red Cross Blood Drive with family-friendly Trunk-or-Treat festivities.
Organized as part of The Highground’s CAMO (Community and Military Outreach) Program, the dual event successfully rallied Clark County residents to support critical health needs before kicking off an evening of Halloween fun.
The day began with the Red Cross Blood Drive, running from noon to 5 pm as donors stepped up to provide life-saving blood donations for patients in need. The drive even drew some whimsical support, including a special visit from the Tooth Fairy, who rolled up a sleeve to donate.
As the blood drive concluded, the focus shifted to Halloween festivities as costumed children and their families arrived at the park for an evening of Trunk-or-Treating. Young guests dressed as everything from dinosaurs to favorite storybook characters collected treats and explored creatively decorated vehicles.
Local youth also played a key role in the event's success. Members of the Neillsville Girl Scout Troop volunteered their time by assisting with Halloween-themed games and staffing the treat station, keeping the young attendees engaged and entertained. The centerpiece of the evening was the trunk-decorating competition, where participants showcased incredible creativity.
Attendees voted a "Lorax"-themed vehicle as the Best Decorated Trunk, beating out a competitive field that included a gypsy fortune teller, a witch, a Greek goddess and Charlie Brown’s Great Pumpkin Patch.
Trunk participants also cast their votes for the evening's Best Costume, awarding top honors to a duo dressed as Olaf and Elsa. The organization extends its sincere gratitude to the dedicated volunteers who channeled their creativity and childhood Halloween memories to create a memorable experience for local families.
The Highground also thanks the trunk-or-treaters and their families who attended, the generous blood donors who contributed to lifesaving efforts and the Neillsville Girl Scout Troop for their vital role in providing an enjoyable evening for the community’s children.
"This CAMO event showcased the very best of our community, bringing people together through service and celebration to create lasting memories and strengthen local connections,” said Bonnie Pettis, donations coordinator.
