Over 200 Greenwood School District residents attended a special meeting Monday night and gave their blessing for a privately run daycare to lease space at the Elementary School.Despite the huge turnout, which had the Cafetorium filled to overflowing, only one resident spoke up. That resident, Ken Williams, said he was in favor of the plan, because he hoped it would help lower property taxes.
The resolution granting the school board the authority to negotiate a lease agreement with Clark County Community Child Care Center passed on a vote of 128 in favor to 81 opposed.
Superintendent Thomas Nykl explained the resolution represented an effort by the board to utilize existing space more efficiently.
"This has really been a democratic process. We have spent more than a year exploring different avenues on how we could use the school district resources more effectively," Nykl said.
