Wisconsin Rapids Voters Choose New District 7 Alderman

(Avery Martinez, Wisconsin Public Radio) Voters in Wisconsin Rapids have elected a new alder to their local board, after the former District 7 representative sent a personal email to a local business over anti-data center signs.
According to Avery Martinez with the Wisconsin Public Radio, the challenger, Rusty W. Brown, brought in 172 votes. The sitting representative at the center of the recall, Michael Timm, received 144.
“I'm very proud to accept the position of Alderman of District 7,” a post on the Brown for Alderman Facebook page reads. “I have lived in this district my entire life and I look forward to representing your voices in government.”
On his official Facebook page, Timm congratulated Brown on his win, and offered his support. “The work continues.” Timm wrote. “Let’s move forward with respect for one another and for the process that gives every voice a say.”
The recall for Alder Michael Timm came after a recall petition was filed against him over the email, which locals felt were trying to put pressure on the business. A data center proposal has been very controversial in the small central Wisconsin community, and local leaders have reevaluated proposals after public outcry.
In a statement before the election, Timm said he didn’t do anything wrong by sending the email. Over 250 signatures were required to start the recall, and the Wisconsin Rapids city clerk ordered the recall election back on Sept. 23.
