The Columbus Catholic School District is holding its Annual Alpine Holiday on November 13th & 14th with a wide variety of activities, entertainment, and more for kids and adults.

I spoke with Edna and Bryan DeVries, the co-chairs of this year’s Alpine Holiday, and they discussed the event in more detail.

Listen to the interview with Edna and Bryan here!

Once again, the Alpine Holiday is being held at the Columbus Catholic School District on November 13th & 14th and you can see all the activities happening by visiting their website. (https://www.columbuscatholicschools.org/news-events/alpine-holiday.cfm).

Bryan: "Sure, we have events you know taking place from 4pm on Friday till 8pm on Saturday night and I think there's 26 different areas that we're trying to coordinate for this."

"Kicks off on Friday night with our annual fish fry, which is very popular, and concludes that night with our Boogie and the Yo-Yos concert and lots of different stuff in between."

Riley: "And for example, people can do some shopping while they're there. There's the bookstore, the craft boutique, spirit ware. Can you kind of touch on those events?"

Edna: "Sure. Yes, we're excited. We have in our field house the craft boutique and we currently have over 60 vendors that are registered with us and anticipate probably about 70 different vendors that will be selling all sorts of crafts and really give an opportunity for people to do some shopping and pre-holiday shopping. So, that is going to be really awesome. It was highly successful last year."

Riley: "And now you mentioned the Friday fish fry, which of course everyone in Wisconsin appreciates, but you do have some other goodies that people can purchase on Friday afternoon and Friday evening. Can you touch on those?"

Edna: "Sure, we have both the dessert cart, which will be available all late afternoon and evening. So, for everybody with their sweet tooth can be satisfied there.

"Ongoing, throughout the entire event, we have our Snowflake Cafe and so that gives people an opportunity to buy things like Nasonville cheese curds. There's hot dogs, hamburgers, chicken strips, and that type of food that is sold right out of the main area, the varsity gym there at Columbus."

Riley: "And, of course, we can't forget about the Beer Garden."

Bryan: "That takes place, you know, throughout the day also and especially during you know the Boogie and the Yo-Yos concert."

Riley: "And that was going to be my next thing I was going to bring up is you do have some music entertainment Friday night. Can you talk about that?"

Bryan: "Sure. We have Richie Yurkovich and the Polkarioty begins at 4pm and plays until 7pm. And when they're finished, then our very popular band Boogie and the Yo-Yos comes on from 7:30pm until 11:30pm on Friday night."

Riley: "And you've got some kiddie games too. What kind of fun games can the kiddos expect?"

Bryan: "Well, there's all sorts of different games that that take place for that. I think there's about between eight and ten different events that they play, varying from plinko to ring toss and all kinds of different things for the kids. So, a good variety and chance for the kids to win some really fun prizes."

Riley: "And now, kind of looking more at Saturday the 14th. Besides some of the food options that we mentioned, you do have the pancake brunch and the pulled pork dinner. Can you talk about that?"

Edna: "Sure. Yes, we'll start off at 8am with the pancake brunch, pancake breakfast, and there'll be pancakes, eggs, sausage, and drinks, and so we're excited to serve that. People can get out and have a nice hot breakfast made for them."

"And then in the evening we have the pulled pork dinner. That'll be between 4:30pm and 6:30pm and that's really fantastic smoked pork and just delicious flavoring. So, excited to be able to serve that for people."

Riley: "And now there'll be some raffle tickets and some silent auction items as well. Is that correct?"

Edna: "Yeah. Thank you for asking about that. We're really excited to have kind of two different areas. There's a kids area where we'll have some nice toys and baskets and things that kids can put raffle tickets in to win one of the things that they're interested in."

"And then we have a silent auction, which we'll have displayed, but it will be done online so people don't need to stay the entire time and they can continue bidding as they're maybe in and out of the event, but that will have items both our kids' classroom projects, which is a always a big hit that the grade schools make a project and is raffled off."

"For example, like a cookie jar that's decorated with all the kids, you know, fingerprints, and so we have those as well as a huge variety of other items that have been donated from..."

Bryan: "All local businesses that are helping us out."

Edna: "Right, so a big variety from power tools to pampered baskets. So, excited to be able to offer that to people as well."

Riley: "And now again on Saturday, there's a long list of things that people can take part in or attend. Can you touch on some of the fun stuff you got going on on Saturday?"

Bryan: "Sure. We'll start the morning off with our ugly sweater run, which is a 5K race, and there's also a kids fun run that takes place in that. So, a little quick run around the Marshfield area. We also have the kiddie games that'll be going on that day and then there's some entertainment in the gym."

"And then we also have a special visit this year from 10 to Noon. I believe somebody from the North Pole and his wife are going to come down and visit us on on Saturday morning as well."

"And then plenty of entertainment all afternoon. Our Main Street Conservatory of Dance will come on and put a performance. They are a very highly acclaimed Columbus High School jazz band will perform from 12:30pm to 1:30pm."

"The Madrigal singers from Marshfield Senior High School will be over to join us and then Mattea Joy, a very famous country singer, will be with us from 2pm to 3:30pm."

"And then the ever popular lip sync contest will be Saturday afternoon as well and then the evening will conclude with our trivia contest from 6pm to 8pm, also in the gym."

"And one more thing, Mike Nandstad, another very talented local artist, will be with us from 9am to 11am in the morning. You know, during the ugly sweater run as well."

Riley: "Now we should mention too that if people want to attend this event, that is free admission, correct?"

Edna: "That's correct. We're excited to be able to offer this without charge and so even our Boogie and the Yo-Yos headliner band on Friday night, there's no admission charge."

"So, we really like to have this event as a big community celebration, as well as being a fundraiser for the Columbus school system. But welcome everybody to come in and participate and just enjoy a fun weekend of all sorts of activities."
