Canadian National Responds to Train Derailment in Wood County

(Heather Poltrock, WSAW) Canadian National is responding to a train derailment in Wood County.

According to Heather Poltrock with WSAW, the incident happened around 7:30 a.m. Thursday morning at the railroad tracks near Highway 80 and Pine Drive, south of Pittsville.

CN released this statement to WSAW:

“CN crews are responding to a derailment that occurred at approximately 07:35 AM local time, near Pittsville, Wisconsin. Preliminary reports indicate that approximately 11 railcars loaded with sand derailed in various positions. There are no fires, dangerous goods or injuries reported at this time. The public crossing at State Route 80 was initially blocked but has now been cleared. There is no impact to public safety. The cause of the incident remains under investigation. CN thanks local emergency services for their assistance and apologizes for any inconvenience this incident may have caused."

The Wisconsin DNR also had a warden on scene who determined there is no environmental concern at this time.
