Even With Some Rain Delays, Harvest Continues Throughout Wisconsin

(Blake Jackson, Wisconsin Ag Connection) Wisconsin farmers had 4.3 days suitable for fieldwork during the week ending October 4, 2026, according to the USDA National Agricultural Statistics Service.

According to Blake Jackson with the Wisconsin Ag Connection, rain slowed field activities, particularly in southern Wisconsin. Topsoil moisture was rated 5% very short, 15% short, 67% adequate, and 13% surplus.

Subsoil moisture stood at 6% very short, 18% short, 66% adequate, and 10% surplus. Corn development remained slightly ahead of the five-year average. Seventy-two percent of the crop had reached maturity, compared with the 70% average.

Grain corn harvest was 8% complete, while silage harvest reached 87%, well above the 77% average. Corn condition remained steady, with 59% rated good to excellent. Soybean development also progressed, with 88% dropping leaves compared with the 85% average.

However, soybean harvest lagged behind normal levels, reaching 11% compared with the 27% average. Crop condition improved slightly, with 58% rated good to excellent. Winter wheat planting was 48% complete, behind the 58% average, while 24% had emerged.

Pasture and range conditions weakened, with 40% rated good to excellent, down two percentage points from the previous week.
