LOYAL BOY FIGHTS CANCER
Thursday, April 23rd, 2009 -- 12:25 PM
No one, let alone a 2-year-old boy, should have to go through what young Seth Duell of Loyal is going through. And, it's been tough on parents Brian and Amy Duell, too.
Seth, who?ll turn 3 next month, has been diagnosed with Neuroblastoma. A cancer affecting the developing nervous systems of infants.
Seth was diagnosed with the cancer when he was six months old. Surgery was performed, and it was looking like he may be out of the woods, but Seth began limping.
"So, we took him into the doctor. They did and x-ray of his hips and they caught a glimpse of his left femur bone and could see something on that," Duell says.
The treatment for young Seth is tough. He had healthy stem cells harvested Wednesday at the Minnesota Children?s Hospital; he?ll receive rigorous chemotherapy, and then have the stem cells replaced.
Doctors are hopeful Seth can recover.
"They were really concerned at the start, but with the new treatments, we're hoping for a 60% chance or better that we're going to get this cured up," Duell says.
Brian and Amy say they?re extremely appreciative of the support of the community.
Their friends have organized a Steak Feed fundraiser to offset the Duell?s medical bills for this Saturday, April 25 from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Loyal Legion. It?s $12 at the door and there will be plenty of door prizes.
