Marshfield Fire & Rescue Recognizing Fire Prevention Week This Week
Tuesday, October 6th, 2026 -- 11:00 AM
Marshfield Fire & Rescue is joining communities across the country in recognizing Fire Prevention Week, October 4–10.
In Marshfield, fire prevention outreach continues throughout October, with firefighters sharing important safety information and helping residents reduce fire risks at home. This year’s theme, “Charge into Fire Safety: Safe Charging is a Superpower,” focuses on preventing fires involving lithium-ion batteries, which power many everyday items, including phones, laptops, tablets, power tools, e-bikes, and scooters.
Marshfield Fire & Rescue encourages residents to follow these basic charging safety practices:
- Use the charger and cord that came with the device or one approved by the manufacturer.
- Unplug devices once they are fully charged.
- Charge devices on a hard, flat surface rather than on beds, couches or pillows.
- When possible, charge larger devices such as e-bikes, scooters and power tools outside and never block an exit while charging.
- Stop using a battery or device if it becomes unusually hot, swells, leaks, smells strange, smokes or makes popping or hissing sounds.
- Choose charging products that have been tested and certified by a recognized safety testing organization, such as UL, ETL or CSA.
Fire Prevention Week is also a good time to test smoke alarms and review your home fire escape plan with everyone in your household.
