CLARK, JACKSON COUNTIES WILL SHARE HWY POST
Wednesday, April 22nd, 2009 -- 1:04 PM
With other counties around the state watching with interest, Clark County?s Board of Supervisors overwhelmingly threw their support behind a plan to ?share? Highway Commissioner Randy Anderson with Jackson County. It?s the first time two counties have agreed to share a Highway Commissioner.
State statute says every county must have a commissioner, but doesn?t say it has to be a full-time position.
Pending approval from the county?s liability insurance carrier, Anderson will begin his duel role on May 1. The counties will split Anderson?s wages and benefits.
The initial contract would be for one year, with subsequent contracts being two years.
Either county may discontinue the arrangement with 90 days notice in writing.
Anderson, who?s been Clark County?s Highway Commissioner since 1990, will be paid about $10,000 more per year for taking on the additional responsibilities.
It was explained last night that new technologies, such as cell phones and computer networks, will make the arrangement possible.
Each county says they expect to save around $100,000 per year because of the arrangement.
