Granton School District Asking Residents to Approve Two-Year, $400,000 Referendum

On November 3, 2026, voters in the Granton Area School District will be asked to consider a two-year, non-recurring operational referendum.

The referendum asks whether the district may exceed its state-imposed revenue limit by $400,000 per year for two years, beginning with the 2026–2027 school year and ending with the 2027–2028 school year, for operational and maintenance expenses.

Official Ballot Question

Question: "Shall the Granton Area School District, Clark County, Wisconsin be authorized to exceed the revenue limit specified in Section 121.91, Wisconsin Statutes, by $400,000 per year for two years, beginning with the 2026-2027 school year and ending with the 2027-2028 school year, for non-recurring purposes consisting of operational and maintenance expenses?"

Voters will be asked to vote “Yes” or “No” on this question. If approved, the referendum is anticipated to result in an estimated school district property tax increase of an average of $280 per $100,000 of property value per year.

The $280 estimate is an average of all seven tax municipalities in the Granton Area School District. Individual tax impacts can vary based on property value, equalized valuation, state aid, and other factors used in determining a property tax bill. Because this is a non-recurring referendum, the additional revenue authority would end after the 2027–2028 school year.

In the weeks leading up to Election Day, the district will continue sharing information about district finances, cost-saving measures, the estimated referendum tax impact, how referendum funds would be used, district partnerships, and long-term planning.
