Wisconsin Realtors Association Says Existing Home Sales Fell 8.3% in August

(WBAY) The Wisconsin Realtors Association says existing home sales fell 8.3% in August compared to the same month last year, even as prices continued to climb.

The statewide median home price reached $362,000 in August, up more than 7% from a year earlier. The Wisconsin Realtors Association’s Housing Affordability Index fell 6.5% in August, dropping to its lowest level since the organization began tracking the measure in 2009. Mortgage rates are around 6.67% for a 30-year fixed loan.

Rising prices, current mortgage rates and slow income growth are squeezing buyers, particularly first-time buyers. Realtors say the August numbers break the summer sales momentum and could signal that more families are being priced out, even as housing inventory increases slightly.
