Hixton Fire Department Responds to Structure Fire

The Hixton Volunteer Fire Department responded to a structure fire early Tuesday morning.
According to the Department, around 4:48am, the Hixton Volunteer Fire Department, with automatic aid from Hixton EMS, Black River Falls EMS, and the Black River Falls Fire Department, was dispatched to a reported structure fire on County Road A in the Town of Hixton.
Additional mutual aid was requested from County Line Fire and Rescue. Hixton Fire Department units arrived on scene just after 5am. The Hixton Fire Chief assumed command as Hixton Incident Commander (IC).
Upon arrival, the IC reported a single-wide trailer home with heavy smoke showing. Engine 51 established initial fire attack operations by deploying approximately 200 feet of 2-inch low-pressure deadlay hose line and advancing to Side A of the structure.
Entry was made through the Side A front door, where crews encountered heavy smoke conditions. The interior crew quickly located the seat of the fire and reported a successful knockdown.
Following knockdown, crews conducted a systematic search for fire extension and found no additional active fire. A total of approximately 125 gallons of water was used for fire extinguishment and mop-up.
One civilian occupant was displaced due to the incident. The American Red Cross was notified and will be assisting the displaced individual. No injuries were reported. The cause of the fire was determined to be an unattended candle.
This incident serves as an important reminder of the hazards associated with open flames and the need for continuous supervision when candles are in use. All Units were back in service at just after 6am.
