Wisconsin's Hog and Pig Inventory for December

(Wisconsin Ag Connection) Wisconsin's hog and pig inventory totaled 400,000 head on December 1st, up 10 percent from the same time last year.
According to the Wisconsin Ag Connection, the USDA says breeding hog inventory in the Badger State was counted at 58,000 head, which was about 2,000 less than in late 2019. But market hog numbers totaled 342,000 head, much higher than the 305,000 counted a year earlier.
The agency says Wisconsin's annual pig crop between December 2019 through November 2020 was 1.19 million head, also up 10 percent for the year. Pigs per litter averaged 11.40, which set a new all-time record.
U.S. inventory of all hogs and pigs on December 1 was 77.5 million head. This was down one percent from 2019. Breeding inventory, at 6.28 million head, was three percent lower from last year. Market hog inventory was at 71.2 million head, which was also off by one percent from last December.
