Clark County Board of Supervisors Postpones Demolishing 1897 Clark County Jail Museum

The Clark County Board of Supervisors postponed a decision on demolishing the 1897 Clark County Jail Museum at their meeting on Thursday.

The Board voted to postpone a decision for 3 months. It’s been estimated that it would cost the county hundreds of thousands of dollars to fix the building as it’s facing water damage, high heating costs, lead paint, asbestos, and other issues. If torn down, the space would become a paved parking lot for the courthouse. The resolution estimates it would cost the county $259,000 to demolish the building.

The Board also approved the 2nd reading of an ordinance regarding health and safety, approved the appointment of two humane officers, heard a presentation on “Roles and Responsibilities Within County Government,” and heard a report from the Clark County Economic Development Corporation.
