UW-Stevens Point Welcomes Second-Largest First-Year Class in 40 Years

The University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point welcomed its second-largest first-year class in 40 years as well as saw increases in graduate and main campus enrollment, according to official 10th-day census data for the 2026-27 academic year.

This fall saw a first-year class of 1,905 and a growth of 5% in graduate students. At the main Stevens Point campus, there was a 2% growth in continuing students and a slight increase in total enrollment.

Across the Stevens Point, Marshfield and Wausau campuses, total enrollment is 8,480. “What we’re hearing from our incoming students is incredibly encouraging - they value that we do things differently at UW-Stevens Point,” said Laura Bell, associate chief marketing and enrollment officer.

“We don’t believe there is a one-size-fits-all college experience; we intentionally prepare students for meaningful careers in ways that align with their goals and interests. We have many outstanding people on campus who create opportunities for students to explore, engage and connect. We help them build in-demand skills for their career and discover what it means to be part of the Pointer family.”

The Universities of Wisconsin Direct Admit program allows UWSP faculty, staff and students to interact with a larger pool of prospective students, showcasing an engaging and welcoming university through Visit Days and Admitted Student Days, which both had high numbers this past year.

“UW-Stevens Point makes prospective students feel at home when they come to visit our campus,” said UWSP Chancellor Bob Brinkmann. “Students can visualize themselves in the classroom as well as living and dining on campus. They also see how UWSP provides them with the resources to help them succeed personally and professionally.”

With new programs that reflect the changing needs of a global economy, such as a bachelor’s degrees in artificial intelligence and sport business, as well as master’s degrees, certificates and the most doctoral degrees of any of the comprehensive Universities of Wisconsin, UWSP has something for every student.

The university also offers affordable tuition, with 95% of first-year students receiving financial aid to help cover expenses. Students find a variety of timely aid awards through UWSP’s efficient Scholarship Portal.

UWSP was also recently recognized as one of the Best Colleges for Rural America for its ability to offer affordable programs that fit regional needs. Students entering college in 2027 may visit in person at the UW-Stevens Point Welcome Center, at the UWSP at Marshfield Solution Center and at UWSP at Wausau’s new co-location at Northcentral Technical College.
