Marshfield Common Council Discusses City Infrastructure, Public Safety, and More at Recent Meeting

The Marshfield Common Council met Sept. 8 and took action on several items involving City infrastructure, public safety, communications and long-range planning.

The Council took no action on Ordinance No. 1547, which proposed a $25 municipal vehicle registration fee. The proposal had been presented as a potential funding source for transportation and pavement maintenance.

As part of the consent agenda, the Council approved several items, including City Policy No. 2.220, Community Media Announcements, the award of a bid for a Fire Department live-fire training structure, a State Municipal Finance Agreement for airport snow removal equipment, and special inspection services for the Police Department relocation project.

The Council also approved Resolution No. 2026-24, authorizing up to $699,318 in General Obligation Promissory Notes and related Clean Water Fund financing for the Braem Park Project.

City Planner James Lieven presented information on development of an updated Comprehensive Plan. The City’s current plan was adopted in 2017, and work is underway to complete the required update.

Several items are expected to return for additional Council discussion. A proposed camping ordinance and review of the citizen comment policy are scheduled for the Sept. 22 meeting.

The City’s strategic plan is also being reviewed and is expected to return to Council either Sept. 22 or Oct. 13. A special Capital Improvement Plan meeting will be held at 5 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 22, followed by the regular Common Council meeting at 6:30 p.m.
