Marshfield High School Students Attend Badger Boys and Badger Girls State

Marshfield High School seniors participated in the Badger Boys State and Badger Girls State Leadership Programs this past summer. Students were selected by their high school faculty based on outstanding qualities of leadership, good moral character, cooperativeness, dependability, and participation in extracurricular activities.

Both Badger State programs provide young men and women with hands-on training and experience in the functions of government and the responsibilities of citizenship in a democratic society.

The programs brought together nearly 1,000 high school students from across Wisconsin. During the weeklong programs, participants were organized into cities and counties to form a simulated 51st state.

Throughout the week, the students carried out the major functions of state government, following procedures modeled after those used by the State of Wisconsin. Participants also had the opportunity to develop party platforms for their national political parties, modeled after the modern Democratic and Republican parties.

In addition to the hands-on government experience, participants heard from a variety of qualified speakers who addressed topics such as leadership, motivation, and civic responsibility.
