City of Marshfield Holds 9/11 Remembrance Ceremony

Community members, veterans, first responders, and local officials gathered Friday morning at Marshfield Fire and Rescue to remember the lives lost during the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001, and to recognize the service and sacrifice of those who responded.

The remembrance ceremony, hosted by the Marshfield Veterans Council, marked the 25th anniversary of the attacks. The ceremony included the presentation of colors, the National Anthem, prayer, the Pledge of Allegiance, remarks from local public safety officials, and a ceremonial salute.

Mayor Nick Poeschel spoke about the lives lost, the bravery of first responders and the sense of unity that followed September 11. During the ceremony, he read a City proclamation recognizing September 11, 2026, as Patriot Day and National Day of Service and Remembrance in the City of Marshfield.

The proclamation also recognized Marshfield’s first responders, dispatchers, military members and veterans and encouraged the community to continue the values of service, courage, compassion and community.

Marshfield Fire and Rescue Deputy Chief Brian Barnes and Marshfield Police Chief Jody Geurink also shared reflections on the lasting impact September 11 has had on public safety and the responsibility carried forward by today’s first responders.

A joint honor guard representing fire, law enforcement and the military participated in the ceremony. The City of Marshfield thanks the Marshfield Veterans Council and everyone who participated in today’s ceremony.

Twenty-five years later, we continue to remember those who lost their lives, honor those who answered the call to serve and recognize those who continue to serve our community and country.
