Some Wisconsin Farmers Begin Limited Fall Tillage

(Blake Jackson, Wisconsin Ag Connection) Wisconsin farmers reported 6.0 suitable days for fieldwork during the week ending August 30, 2026, according to the USDA National Agricultural Statistics Service.

According to Blake Jackson with the Wisconsin Ag Connection, dry weather continued across much of the state, allowing producers to make progress with harvesting and other seasonal activities.

Potato harvesting was underway, while some farmers had begun limited fall tillage. Topsoil moisture was rated 15% very short, 28% short, 56% adequate, and 1% surplus. Subsoil moisture conditions were reported at 11% very short, 27% short, 61% adequate, and 1% surplus, reflecting continued dryness in several areas.

Corn development remained ahead of the five-year average. About 85% of the crop had reached the dough stage, compared with 80% normally, while 38% had reached the dent stage and 5% was mature.

Silage harvest was 5% complete, ahead of the 3% average. However, corn rated good to excellent fell to 62%. Soybeans setting pods reached 96%, exceeding the 93% average, while 5% had begun dropping leaves.

Soybean condition was 61% good to excellent. Oat harvest reached 90%, and the third alfalfa cutting was 97% complete. Pasture and range conditions declined to 45% good to excellent.
