Bike Share Programs in Wood County Will be Looking a Little Different

Monday, August 31st, 2026 -- 10:01 AM

After nearly 10 years of supporting community access to active transportation, the River Riders and Marshfield Community Bike Share programs will be looking a little different in Wood County.

Bike share launched to increase equitable access to bicycles and promote health, recreation, and transportation options throughout Wood County. Bike share provided residents and visitors with opportunities to explore their communities while encouraging active lifestyles.

The River Riders program saw 3,000 rides over the course of a decade. The Marshfield Community program has seen 819 total rides since its launch in 2021. While the program will look different, the impact will continue to be felt.

Through strong community partnerships and local support, River Riders and Marshfield Community Bike Share helped:

  • Increase access to affordable transportation and recreation
  • Promote physical activity and wellness
  • Strengthen community connections across Wood County

“We are incredibly grateful to the many partners, funders, and community members who helped make bike share possible through funding, donations, or enjoyed riding the bicycles,” said Hannah Wendels Scott, program manager. “Their support has made a meaningful difference in expanding access to biking and promoting healthier, more connected communities.”

Program partners are currently working to responsibly transition assets and, where possible, to ensure bikes continue to benefit the community. More information, including next steps and opportunities for continued community engagement, will be shared as it becomes available.
