City of Marshfield Holding Groundbreaking Ceremony for New Police Station this Wednesday, September 2
Monday, August 31st, 2026 -- 9:00 AM
The City of Marshfield will hold a groundbreaking ceremony at 9 a.m. Wednesday, September 2, 2026, marking the start of construction of the future Marshfield Police Department at the former Wildwood Plaza site at 2510 South Central Avenue.
City officials, members of the Common Council, Fire and Police Commission, Marshfield Police Department staff, project representatives, State representatives, and community partners will gather for brief remarks, followed by a ceremonial groundbreaking.
The project will renovate the former Wildwood Plaza building and add new construction to provide the Police Department with a modern facility that meets current and long-term public safety needs.
The facility will include improved space for Police Department operations, evidence storage, training, secure vehicle storage, and other law enforcement functions. Kraemer Brothers is serving as construction manager for the project, with BKV Group providing architectural and engineering services.
The Common Council originally authorized $10.8 million for the Police Department relocation project. That amount included approximately $10 million for construction and $800,000 for design, engineering, and other related project costs.
The City was later awarded an additional $800,000 Non-State Grant from the State of Wisconsin. The Common Council approved adding the grant funding to the project. As project planning continued, the Council approved moving forward with an expanded secure vehicle garage identified as an operational need during the feasibility study.
The current approved project construction budget is approximately $12.1 million. The latest construction bidding resulted in approximately $9.5 million in construction bids, with the current estimated construction cost at approximately $11.2 million.
The final bid recommendations were approved by the Board of Public Works and subsequently approved by the Common Council as part of its August 25 consent agenda. The project remains within the approved overall project budget.
The new facility is intended to provide improved security, operational efficiency, and long-term space for Police Department personnel, vehicles, and equipment. Secure indoor vehicle storage will also help protect emergency vehicles, electronics, and other equipment while keeping vehicles ready for response year-round.
Construction is expected to continue into 2027, with the Police Department anticipated to move into the new facility during summer 2027. The groundbreaking represents a significant milestone in a project that has involved several years of planning, design, funding decisions and public discussion.
