LOCAL FARMERS MARKETS ORGANIZE
Friday, April 10th, 2009 -- 11:30 AM
Area farmers markets are looking for more vendors and customers.Richard Halopka with the Clark County UW-Extension Office says a series of vendor meetings are scheduled in the next couple weeks.
Markets are planned for Neillsville, Greenwood, Abbotsford, Loyal and Thorp.
"We are asking people that would like to be vendors and those that would like to purchase things locally to support this," Halopka says, "We have a pretty good thing started, we just want to improve on that."
Becoming a vendor is pretty easy. If you?re interested, you can obtain a packet of information from the Extension Office.
"It basically just covers some food safety things, there's some paperwork that would make them eligible (to accept) WIC coupons and Senior coupons," he notes, "If you could attend one of the meetings, it would be very helpful for you."
There are many benefits to purchasing produce at Farmers? Markets. The money typically stays local, the produce is typically fresh and you can actually talk with the farmer that harvested your food.
The informational meetings begin next Thursday with a meeting in Greenwood. If you?d like more information, contact Richard Halopka at 743-5121.
