City of Marshfield Reminds Residents to Have Cemetery Decorations Removed by October 1st

Wednesday, August 26th, 2026 -- 10:00 AM

The City of Marshfield is reminding residents and cemetery visitors to remove grave decorations before the annual fall clean-up begins October 1.

Items that must be removed include decorations, containers, shepherd hooks, solar lights and other loose items placed in the ground around headstones. Items that are permanently affixed to a headstone, such as grave saddles or monument-mounted vases, may remain.

Any remaining loose items will be removed and discarded by cemetery staff beginning October 1. The fall clean-up flyer identifies Hillside Cemetery, Gate of Heaven Cemetery and Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery. Visitors should take removed decorations with them and not leave unwanted items at the cemetery for disposal.

Fall and winter decorations may be placed beginning October 11. Only items affixed to headstones will be allowed. Residents are encouraged to remove and safely store decorations that have significant monetary or sentimental value.

For questions, contact the cemetery office at 715-486-2098. Additional cemetery rules and clean-up information are available through the Parks & Recreation Cemetery Division on the City website.
