Governor Evers Approves Emergency Rule Allowing Experienced Registered Nurses to Teach Clinical Courses

Thursday, July 23rd, 2026 -- 8:00 AM

(WBAY) Gov. Tony Evers has approved an emergency rule that allows experienced registered nurses to teach clinical courses at Wisconsin nursing schools without a master’s degree.

Under the new pathway, faculty must hold a bachelor’s degree in nursing, maintain an active Wisconsin RN license, have at least two years of relevant clinical experience, and work under a traditionally qualified RN.

The rule is intended to ease nursing school staffing shortages and help train more nurses as the state faces long-standing healthcare workforce gaps.
