Neillsville Police Department Offers Tips to Combat Theft, Burglary, and Trespassing

Over the past two days, the Neillsville Police Department has taken reports involving missing property, trespassing, and burglary.
While these incidents remain under investigation, the Department wants to remind residents to take simple precautions to help protect themselves and their property. Most thefts from vehicles are crimes of opportunity.
Thieves often target vehicles that have been left unlocked or contain valuables in plain view. Taking a few moments to secure your property can significantly reduce the likelihood of becoming a victim.
Residents are encouraged to:
- Always lock your vehicle, even if it is parked in your driveway.
- Remove valuables such as wallets, purses, firearms, electronics, cash, and keys from your vehicle or keep them out of sight.
- Lock the doors and windows of your home, garage, and other outbuildings.
- Close all vehicle windows and secure truck toolboxes and cargo areas.
- Turn on exterior lighting or park in well-lit areas whenever possible.
- Consider using security cameras or motion-activated lighting around your residence.
- Report any suspicious persons, vehicles, or activity in your neighborhood immediately.
The department also reminds firearm owners that firearms should never be left unsecured inside a vehicle. If you discover that your vehicle, home, or other property has been entered or items are missing, do not disturb the scene.
