Tuesday, July 21st, 2026 -- 11:01 AM
With the spread of cyclosporiasis causing GI upset and diarrhea, you may be wondering how you can eat healthy and still keep yourself and your family safe.
Sanford Health at Marshfield Clinic has some good general food safety tips to keep in mind:
- Wash your hands with soap and water before preparing food
- Wash all fruits and vegetables thoroughly under running water
- Wash cutting boards, dishes, utensils and counter tops with soap and hot water
In the past, cyclosporiasis outbreaks have been linked to bagged salad mixes and kits, fresh cilantro, fresh basil, raspberries, snow peas and green onions. To reduce risk of exposure, consider cooking food to at least 158 degrees Fahrenheit before eating.
And of course, contact your provider if you have any questions or concerns.
