The Highground Veterans Memorial’s Heroes Ride: Southwestern Route
Tuesday, July 14th, 2026 -- 1:00 PM

What began as a route for a dedicated family of three has blossomed into an inspiring group of riders sharing their journey.
These enthusiasts will embark on their two-day ride on Saturday, August 1. They are set to arrive at The Highground late on the morning of Sunday, August 2, as part of The Highground’s Annual Heroes Bike Tour, a ride deeply rooted in remembrance and purpose.
This meaningful tradition began in 1985 when Tom Miller courageously biked 1,244 miles across Wisconsin, each mile symbolizing a Wisconsin service member lost in the Vietnam War.
His journey sparked awareness, honored Vietnam veterans and helped lay the foundation of The Highground. Today, the ride continues as the cherished Heroes Ride. Leading the Southwestern Route is Marine Spouse Terri Stott, who intimately understands the sacrifices military families endure.
For Terri, the Heroes Ride is more than just miles, it’s a cause close to her heart, strengthened by the presence of her family and friends who ride alongside her. The Southwestern Route riders will begin the final leg of their journey on Sunday morning, August 2, arriving at The Highground between 10:30 and 11:30am.
The welcome they receive at The Highground is powerful, the heartbeat behind a mission that has inspired healing and remembrance for over four decades. Riders gather for the “Heroes Family” meal and a brief ceremony before heading home.
It is, without question, one of the humblest yet most meaningful events of the year. The Heroes Ride, the organization’s largest and longest-running fundraiser, raised over $67,000 in 2025.
These vital funds directly support life-changing veterans initiatives and everyday operations at The Highground. The Highground proudly welcomes returning riders and eagerly invites new participants each year.
There's still time to make an impact, joining the Southwestern Route empowers a legacy of honor, education and healing for Veterans and their families. Visit thehighgroundheroesride.com today for route and rider registration information.
